Nigel has a strong private sector background including previous roles as GM – Digital for Fairfax Media and CEO of Affinity ID, a marketing technology company.
He has a passion for how data can be used to solve problems, gain better business results and to deliver better customer experiences.
o Tell us a bit about your adventures in the entrepreneurial world so far?
I’ve always had a big interest in product development, I’ve brought several new products to market in the digital space. I’ve also advised some start-up companies.
o What are the elements of starting up a business that get you most excited?
The sheer excitement of the unknown, and the need to be flexible and adaptable.
o What is the most important thing that entrepreneurs should know?
It’s all about the customer – ideas need to work at user and market levels.
o What ideas would you like to see from Tauranga's Startup Weekend participants?
I’d be really interested in seeing some ideas oriented more towards social enterprise / social outcomes.
o What’s the best way for participants to capture your interest when pitching their idea?
Be confident, and explain really clearly and succinctly why the world needs your idea.
